01 740iL NAV Radio iPod Interface

All - I am new to the Forum so please be patient while I learn the site and rules. I have a 2001 BMW 740iL and I have the NAV System Radio. I want to get an iPod interface for this radio. I would like something that I can control via the NAV Screen if possible.

While I am at it, I wouldn't mind information on upgrading my NAV System and adding video, like a backup camera to my system. Any assistance would be appreciated. I have my radio out and it has the Blue and White Locking Connectors on the back of it. Those are the only two cables going into the Radio.

You can upgrade from the MKII CD based NAV to the MKIV DVD system, it's plug in play.

I got both the iPod interface and the back up camera from European Auto Source, a BimmerFest sponsor.

There are some links below, showing the work done (mostly in the trunk vs behind the dash) for the modifications.

Wow, that is an old iPod...

iceLink aka DICE install

Reverse camera install

I use the Intravee, as in the link, as its all plug n play, with factory controls including the steering wheel being retained. You will need a DICE module if you have DSP, and you will also need an Alpine K420i, which are plentiful on ebay

You can get a BMW rear view camera. This appears to be of generic design, and can also be fitted at the front if required. Of course it all integrates well, though fitting to the boot lid is a bit fiddly. The camera is located between the number plate lights, where you have to cut out the ribbed section. Wiring is all ready prepared with all necessary pins fitted. You are most likely to find one of these on German ebay.
