Battery disconnected, things not working now.
I had the head liner and post recovered in my 2001 E-38. The person for some reason disconnected the battery. Now the key remote will not work, clock etc...are not set. Can anyone help or must I take the car in to have it corrected?
Thank you in advance for your help. |

I slightly puzzled in how to answer or make suggestions. Are you saying you'd rather pay $110+ per hour to a BMW dealership to reset your car's clock than to read the instructions in your car's owners manual (and supplemental Nav manual)?
For example, even though I don't have Nav (btw...there's the small or wide nav screen which you need to identify when asking questions about it)...I do have this pic for some reason...and you can see the CLOCK prompt in the image...and I can almost figure out how to reset the CLOCK by reading the instructions for changing the date: ![]() Please don't take offense...for instance, if you don't have an owners manual or the supplemental Nav manual...we have no way of knowing this unless you tell us. We can also tell you where you can download those manuals (if you don't have them). Here's a freebie that you didn't mention...but may find out later may not work properly.
As far as reinitializing your keys...see the instructions below that get posted about once a month...and as far as the "etc"...you'll have to let us know what else doesn't work...again, we can't see your car...we only know what info/details you give us. ![]() Some tips on reinitializing the remote keys that trip up many owners that just "skim" through the instructions:

Thank you QSilver7,
I was able to set the clock and the time and date. The sunroof is working now. However I can't get the keyfob button to unlock the doors or to lock them. Center console button will not lock or unlock door also. Trunk will not unlock with keyfob. I did try the application you sent me but I may not have the key in the correct position (KLR). Can you explain this position better? I have the key into the switch position, next position turning forward lights up the dash board computer info read out and the nav system screen (the key can't be taken out in this position). Next is the position that all lights on the dash board light up and fan kicks in (key can't be taken out in this position). Next is the starting position with car turning over. The etc... is I don't know what more to check for that may not be working. Again thank you for your help. |

just read and follow the instructions carefully and you will get it, sometimes if while sitting in your drivers seat you do the reset with the key up towards your left shoulder it seems to work better ..... you'll get it just follow the instructions

Well you've already diagnosed your problem - the battery has had it. You will get all sorts of weird effects once the battery is failing, and headlight coming on without the switch being in the headlight position is typical. Get a quality battery, and don'y skimp on the Ah rating

You might have a look here:
http://wds.spaghetticoder.org/en/svg...28.svg?m=e3802 The indicators and headlights are both connected to the LCM -Light Control Module, which in turn is supplied power from several fuses. Start with these. Click the fuse number on the diagram, then follow the tree to the blue icon, and click that to obtain a pic of the fuse location... |

Do you know by any chance where is the light module(LCM) located on a RHD e38

Same place as LHD...on the right hand side of the RH kick panel: http://wds.spaghetticoder.org/en/zinfo/E38_EA3A.htm
Without any build date or model year...I couldn't give any specific links directly to the LCM module for your car...but try the links below to find based on your model & model year...just click on the links & columns to work your way over to the LCM/LKM: components - control units & assemblies - light module (based on your car's specific build date info). Good luck: Online BMW TIS: http://tis.spaghetticoder.org/e38/ Online BMW WDS (wiring diagrams): http://wds.spaghetticoder.org/

Ah, well you probably need to download Adobe SVG viewer then, which is needed to see the BMW WDS (wiring diagrams) as this opens within a webpage. This is worth doing as the WDS/Spaghetti is extremely useful once you get the hang of it...

I have the very same problem of loosing my BMW 740i settings when I have to disconnect the Negative terminal of my BMW in order to safely replace the oil cover gasket.
My BMW manual helps me to reset the alarm and I am able to drive it. I still lost my large NAV display and my radio only plays for 2-3 minutes then it cuts off. I can still manage to view the MPG display on the odometer cluster via the control on the steering wheel, but I could not able to set the clock. I do not have the NAV manual. Did I blow the NAV fuse or the NAV system when I connected the Negative terminal of the battery back to the car? Please help or point me to the right directions to fix my NAV display. Many thanks in advance. bmw2qnj2le |
