Correct & complete aux install

I made these 2 videos for those of you who have a FaceLift Ask Unit & FaceLift MMI
that would like to do the Auxiliary plug Mod in your car . I also made them cause
some 1 accused me of taking credit for there work . There are 2 members on here
that can confirm I have had the Auxiliary feature in my 2002 745LI for just under
4 MONTHS . They have Both been in my car on several different occasions & have
seen it with there own eye's a few month's back .

I Appreciate you getting on here & confirming I had the Aux
in my car for several months . THANKS A LOT MARK !!!

I am sure you know that I am not an attention whore ,
& honestly it's sometimes hard to take the time to make
these videos considering how busy I get . I only Posted
them cause I was told that some 1 accused me of taking

Awesome video! Great info. One question; what do you have to do to get "aux" to show up on the mmi screen? Any idea if it can work if you have both factory ipod and sat radio, or can it have only aux or sat radio?

You can use NCS expert to Add the AUX , &
yes I am sure you will still have your Sat radio
& ipod as long as you don't remove it ...

Yes Paper I know of the old Auxiliary you had workind and then when you replace it with the new one you put in 4 months ago we had talk about it when you got the cable.

can i do this to my 04' 745i jsut by buying that AUX cable and plugging it in? or do I need to upgrade my ASK as well?

If you read my 1'st post & watched the videos
you would have your answer .

but to make things simple for you .
YOU NEED TO HAVE A FACELIFT MMI & A FACELIFT ASK UNIT IN YOUR CAR ...

I'm sorry buddy , I will have to try & find some time to read
my MMI to give you the answer . Unfortunately I don't remember
what line it was , it was sometime ago when I did this MOD .

Thanks.... dont see that option in my MMI.TRC...a little weird. My car was an early build 06...maybe I need to update the software on my MMI?

I wish there was someone out here in Arizona as smart as you to do the aux and tv tuner to my 745li

PAPER: Thank you for your answer. Since I am a curious individual and you seem like a smart dude I have to ask...Whats the difference between new MMI ASK and mine(2004 old one I guess?) Are you saying that my unit does not support onscreen AUX and My ASK doesn't have the same connector in the back of the unit?

correct the old Pre-FaceLift MMI does not support AUX ,
Neither does the Pre-FaceLift ASK Unit . Your old
ASk & the new ASk Unit do have the same plug , but
the old Ask Unit does not support the AUX feature .

...and thats why we need 'Thanks' button in the Threads ! =)

Aux introduced from 09/2006 build. If your vehicle was built before that date then you may not have the option.

Update the ASK and do the FA edit to #0906

Paper (or anyone else),
i need some help with this.
i followed Paper's instructions but i can't seem to get it to work.
1. i changed the aux parameter to aktive in the MMIGT module so now when i go to the entertainment list i see a white AUX option
2. i bought the cable and rewired it just like Paper suggested (2 right, 7 left, 8 ground)
3. i took out the ASK but then i saw that there is another cable in the spot where the aux cable is suppose to go?
4. i took out that cable and connected the aux cable instead
i turned on the ASK unit. AM/FM works fine. i connected my iphone to the aux cable and played a song but when i switch to aux nothing happens. it just sits at aux with no sound. aux does not turn to orange like when other options are selected. it stays white and no sounds is heard.

what is the cable that was connected in the aux spot??
what am i doing wrong?

Well 1'st you should fix all the problems
you have been having with your Ask Unit, &
The other equipment you have been mentioning
in your other post , before you try
installing new features to your car .

2nd does the volume line pop up on the
MmI when in auxiliary mode after you press
it 2xs ???


Edit =
You should trace the plug that is
already plugged into your Ask Unit to
see what it leads you to . It might just
be you already have aux in your car .
( maybe look in your center console to
check for the stock aux )

Also you might want to reset your MMI back
to factory settings since you messed it up
by playing with it , & changing features on
It .
