BlackBerry Bold 9900 Problems w/ BMW Office
After recently upgrading to a BlackBerry Bold 9900, I'm having a strange problem. When the phone pairs with the car, everything works great. Contact sync, phone, streaming audio, email, & SMS all integrate with the iDrive screen with no problems at all.
The problem happens after leaving the car. The device can no longer download attachments, and the "more" function to read long emails stops working. The only way to restore normal functionality is to reboot the phone, and then it works fine again until the next time it pairs with the car. My hunch is that the car must apply limits to what it fetches from the phone (only certain email length, no attachments, etc.) and that restriction is staying on the phone even after it unpairs with the car. I've wiped and reloaded the BlackBerry numerous times, deleted and recreated my account on the BES server, deleted and sent service books, and tried every BlackBerry trick in the book, to no avail. I'm probably one of the few dinosaurs still using a BlackBerry, but is anyone else having the same issue, or, even better, come up with a solution? Rebooting the phone after every drive is a huge hassle. Details for the techies out there: - BlackBerry Bold 9900, running OS 7.1.0.391 from Rogers

I would suggest asking this question in a Blackberry forum. It seems to me that there could be a bug in that 9900 firmware.

I have the same problem using a Torch 9810 with a 2012 M5 and a Bold 9900 with a 2012 Mini with the Mini version of the IDrive. Did you find a work around?

Problem solved for Torch 9810
There is a new official OS upgrade 7.1.0.658 I install on my Torch that fixed problem. There is a new OS Bold as well but not .658. I haven't tried it yet.
Go to crackberry.com for latest OS upgrades. |

Thanks for the tip about 7.1.0.658. I found the same version for the 9900 and confirmed that it resolves the issue on that device as well.
Unfortunately it wasn't that straightforward, since there is a bug on the AT&T network with newer versions of 7.1 code where the mic sometimes doesn't work on incoming calls, and calling parties can't hear you. So the final resolution was to load AT&T's version 7.1.0.694, then replace the "net_rim_bt_map.cod" file with the one from the 7.1.0.658 version. After deleting the pairing, pulling the battery, and recreating the pairing, everything is finally working as it should. Users not on AT&T won't have to endure the extra hackery, and can just load 7.1.0.658 and call it a day.
