Yes, twice. There was a recall on the seat sensor mat a few years ago, so you could search for that. The second time was a damaged wire under the seat, so you could look around under the seat. Good luck!

There's a few threads floating around with a variety of causes mentioned. Mine was a bad battery cable.

Need to have codes pulled. Otherwise its a wild goose chase.

mine was a battery issue also - when the battery is low, the computer starts shutting down other systems to allow the car to start and run. one of the first systems is the seat belt warning light... it is not broke - just may need a new battery soon...

Same issue
I recently purchased a 2009 535i with the M sports package and after 3 days of driving it I received the 'Fault in passenger restraint system' warning on my IDrive. I dropped off the car at the dealership on Friday. I called them on Friday before closing and was told they are still working on it. The dealership closed on Sat and on Monday I called and was told they were removing the passenger seat. I'm wondering how long it will take if it was an issue with the sensor mat and if they already have the parts at the dealership? It's a bit frustrating because I've only had the cars for a few days and it's been in the shop longer than I've had the car.
