When I was a mere teenager, we looked down on those who put "Y-pipes" on their cars, as opposed to installing a true dual exhaust system. Just sayin'.

It looks perfectly fine from behind the car. We're doing some tweaks to make it look even better.
It's not for everyone, neither is a 97-2000 540

The header config is already a 2 piece is I'm not mistaking. Why not make a true dual kit with an x pipe?

This is not my cup of tea, but I say kudos to Umnitza for developing this setup. For those who want a quad setup it seems like it would be nice to have an option that does not require body/under carriage modifications. But I am sure people with vote with their checkbooks or I guess debt/credit cards.
I'm not sure this was a serious comment, but that might actually look good if there is enough room to fab something there. I mean, unless I am missing something this quad exhaust thing is about aesthetics. Quote:
Personally I think it is a little nuts to cut up the car to fit a dual exhaust. But then I also don't see why everyone wants a twin tip single side exhaust rather than a single tip. The M5 quad setup is nice, but so are single side twin tips or a single side single tip. I however do think exposed tips are way better than the OEM turn down nonsense. That is a nice thing though we all have different ideas about what makes these cars look good. I am sure plenty of people disagree with or have very different aesthetic ideas than I do.

On my experience, when people say "perfectly fine" they are bull****ting.

We built this because there was an incredible level of demand on Bimmerforums. The idea is that it will fit both 52X, 530, and 540 sedans with 1 exhaust for all of them.
Over 20 people requested we build it, we did. There is no other way to build this given the limitations of the E39 chassis. One other point, it's designed to give 4hp-7hp just like our other Dyno tested quads. Finally, the way it's designed, the exhaust gases come out of both sides at exactly the same time, FWIW, this makes this exhaust far different than other quad tipped exhausts out there.

Can you do a quad tip lambo setup where they stack in a square and come out in the center?

I can dig it. And I think I've seen this car around on multiple occasions and never noticed while on the move.

It looks good from some angles but makes no sense on a V configuration....

Going hard will also leave you sitting on the side of the road with a flat tire.
