Can I do better on this deal?
Hi. I am currently in the process of ordering a 2013 BMW X3 28i. I feel like I could possibly get a better deal. This is also my first BMW purchase.
Jet Black Oyster leather Fineline Wave Packages: Premium Technology Convenience Sport Activity Cold weather I MSRP is $49,195 What dealer has offered: $1,000 off $1,250 (USAA discount) $1,400 (trade-in, they'll give me $10,000 but I owe $8,600) That puts it at $45,545 CA said there was a $399 doc fee, so then it would be $45,944 (NOT counting tax+title) Now invoice according to these sites: BMW config- $45,420 Edmunds- $45,230 KBB- $45,230 So I'm roughly $524-$714 above invoice (INCLUDING doc fee but NOT tax+title) And again that is WITH my trade-in also. Should I be able to get to $524-$700 above invoice WITHOUT even including my trade-in yet? So can I do better than this deal? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! |

You can do a lot better. I certainly wouldn't pay more than $!,000 over invoice, in which case your final offer should be around $43,750, factoring in the USAA discount and the trade-in. I assumed an invoice of $45,400. Plenty of places will go even lower. You're letting them deal from MSRP down, not from the invoice up. Good luck.

Agree with most recent post. I recently purchased a 2013 X3. I sent request for quotes from 5 dealers through the BMWUSA website. Within a day I had 5 e-mails back. I responded back via e-mail stating I was willing to pay xxx over invoice. 2 dealers said ok. I had my trade in appraised at 4 dealers in the past few months, so I had a good idea of what it was worth. Then, I told the 2 dealers what I was looking to get on trade and what the other dealers quote was.
Do not include the trade in value as a number off invoice. This is a separate number. Think of any extra cash from your trade in as your cash towards your new car. Once you get the number to xxx above invoice, then take off the 1250 USAA discount. This will get you below invoice. There is owner loyalty cash of 750 off for current BMW owners who finance through BMWFS. If you belong to BMWCCA they will send you a check for 500 after you purchase the X3. With the above discounts you can get well BELOW invoice. Good luck! |

Ya, that's pretty high for a doc fee. I mean, doc fees in general are basically a way to pay the back office people, but $399 is high. Most dealers won't give up the doc fee but you can try telling them that you're willing to pay them $200 for docs.

rodney, I've seen folks here get $500 over invoice easy. I've also seen very close 2nd hand accounts of $250 over invoice. PM me.
Finally, is there a reason you are not adding the dynamic handling package (and the adjustable dampers it comes with it) to your spec? best $1,400 we spent on the car. cannot recommend it highly enough.

Are you using the car buying service through USAA? Using the car buying service, I was able to get about 2k off in addition to the 1250 off my X3.

I really appreciate everyone's help and input regarding my negotiation process. You all have been very helpful! I was definitely thinking the first offer I received was not very good.

Again, thank you all for the help and definitely wouldn't mind if others had some suggestions for me too. I'm going back to a different dealership tomorrow and see what I can do with them. I'll get back on here with those results. |

When talking price with the dealerships, try not to mention the USAA incentive. Get their best price, then apply it. Remember, it's an incentive so it's not coming out of their pocket. But if they know you qualify then they'll try to incorporate it into the deal and offer you $500 over invoice when it's actually $1,500. Good luck! dr
