2008 650i Extended Warranty or Not

I bought a 08 650 Convertible back in June with 34k miles on it. The car is still under factory warranty until December 2012.

I am still on the line about extended warranties and maintenance, this is what the dealership quoted.

Extended Warranty - $4500 - additional 5yrs/100k miles $50 deductible per visit
Maintenance Package - $2500 with $0 deductible. This covers oil changes, maintenance services, brakes etc.

Being a first time BMW owner, I am not sure if I should spend the extra money on the warranty for peace of mind.

Really only matters if you are planning on keeping the car. If so you need a warranty but i would probably quote some aftermarket warranties to have a cost/coverage comparison.

I plan to keep the car for 2 - 3 years at the most. Would average around ~8k miles/year.

@bedstuyguy86 - I haven't heard/read a lot of good things about the after market warranties. Do you have any experiences?

Get it. Last thing you need is warranty issues. Especially if you plan to keep it.

FYI: I used to have an out of warranty 745i... Last year alone, I spent $7000+ in maintenance! Noooooo thank you!

$7k sounds scary!!
How many miles did you have on the 745?

Make sure that 5 years is from date of purchase not from in service date.

See if dealer offers BMWCCA discount and if not a member join.

USAA quoted me 4 years/48k miles at over 6k

I had 160,000km's when I sold it...
