Transmission and Motor Mount Locations
Can someone tell me where I should be looking for the most prone to fail motor and 5 speed transmission mounts for a 328i? I am trying one last ditch effort to fix my shifting problem, and I doubt it's the mounts, but it doesn't hurt to look before I go dropping the tranny to get to the clutch.

What exactly is the question? Just look at the mounts to see if they've failed.

I'm not sure if I am seeing them all, the ones I see don't look too bad, I guess what I'm asking is if there are any hidden ones that I should be looking for. I only see a few motor mounts and 2 transmission mounts, I assume there are more?

Oh, no, there are just two engine mounts, and two transmission mounts. That's it.

Oh wow. So how do I tell if they are actually bad? The 2 big rubber ones on the engine look okay, but they are so big around it's hard to tell what's going on inside. The transmission ones have some very minor cracking on the outside of the rubber, but they seem good, and I tried rocking the transmission back and forth and it didn't have much movement.

If they look cracked at all, they should be replaced. I think it's too hard to move the engine & trans by hand to check for failed mounts, so trying to do so won't yield any useful information on their condition. But anyway, if you have cracked trans mounts, and are experiencing shifting issues, you might as well just go ahead and replace the trans mounts. They're cheap and easy enough to replace, and it sounds like you need them anyway, so it couldn't hurt to give them a try.
