leaking vanos accumulator

before buying a 02 M3 I had a top to bottom inspection performed. One item noted on the report was that the vanos accumulator was leaking and recommended a replacement (app $500+). after I asked if this was an urgent matter I was told ..NO it is not. I'm wondering if this is something within the skill set of an average skilled auto mechanic that I could do during the winter months that are about to set upon me? Comments?

There are several "how to" threads on this forum that would walk you through it... it looks like a simple repair and the seal kits are available on ebay and elsewhere.
