x5 transmission

have a 2005 x5 4.4 and the transmission shifts are not quite right, I have read the threads...you can reset the trans but it will be back ...a reprogram will do much the same..so will the trans keep running or fail?

Try having the fluid and filter changed, makes a huge difference in smoothness of the changes.

hi im sure my airmass sensor is makeing my auto box shift the same as your car. once i have changed my airmass sensor. i see you can reset the gearbox.please could you tell me how to do that. or point me to where you got your info. as id like to do my one. my car is 2001 3.0i so might not be the same but worth a try... thanks jim

hi, just joined so pls excuse me if this question has been answered elsewhere.
my X5 3D 2004 has a slight delay in engaging Drive after starting up (cold start) revs climbs to about 2500 - 3000 before it kicks in and moves fwd. there after all is 100% perfect. its just the initial start in the morning or after it has stood for a few hours.
i know i have read similar posts on the internet but im not sure if it was confirmed to be an error or whether its normal.

pls advise if possible.

I had this exact same problem with a previous X5. I took it to an indy who changed the transmission fluid and filter which cured the problem. BMW say that the transmission fluid is ok and sealed for life but after several years it does break down. Get your transmission fluid and filter changed and it should be ok. It cost me £300 to get the job done.

This transmisson leaks slowly over the years. If there was a dipstick and filler tube no big deal but with bmw no such luck. If you are going to top up the trans fluid (which should solve the majority of the problems I read about the trans) go ahead and drop the pan, new filter, gasket fill fluid with car LEVEL then reset the trans

turn on ignition (not engine) with foot off brake

put gas pedel to the floor for 60 sec (helps if radio etc is off)

listen for clicks

Make sure when you fill with fluid you put in all 9(i thimk) liters.
Found Two filters for that trans and one fill tube was lower than the other, that means less fluid
