Question Broken "Engine Compartment Seal"

I have a 2007 4.8i, but I think this applies to any E70: under the hood at the back of the engine compartment there's a gasket/seal mounted on a long strip of plastic that runs across the width of the engine compartment in front of the firewall right under (touching) the hood. It appears to have been screwed in to the plastic left and right "engine compartment bulkheads" near the middle of the vehicle, but the mounting tabs on mine rotted away and I found the seal just laying on top of the engine the other day. Questions:

- Has anyone else seen this?
- Am I correct in thinking that the CPO extended warranty won't cover this?
- There's a 2011 recall that is related to this part, but it doesn't sound like it my issue, is that correct?

Thanks.

Hello Wthayer. On my 2007 x5, this part was totally obliterated by the Arizona sun around 2 years ago. I ordered a part from Tischer, trying to replace it, and only got that long seal that you speak of. I am of the belief that this piece is purely cosmetic, so I have not pursued the fix any further. Thank you for the information on the recall, I will have to investigate that further.

Resurrecting old topic: have you found out anything about this recall? Did the brake fluid flush today and noticed the seal just hanging there all by itself... which is kinda lame for German engineering...

Had mine replaced at 48,000 under warranty. Not sure if CPO would cover it.

Engine bay seal

I have 2010 x5 4.8 . Same thing happen to it, that same seal behind the engine broke . The plastic hold the seal broke as well , that seal just basic to prevent the engine noise. Does any one change it or know where to shop for it beside the dealer

Just noticed mine is bad, too. Looks like someone used tape to try and secure it. Anyone have a part number? I've searched Engine Partition and Engine Compartment Seal without any luck at ECS and Tischer.

It is vital to our diesels to keep water from intruding under the sound isolation foam. Search is your friend, there is much discussion of repair/replacement and the damage caused.

Thank you! This is definitely a future project. Couple questions: mine is currently in bad shape and taped in - is it OK to just take it out temporarily? I'm afraid it may come loose and get caught in a belt or fan. Also, is there a part number of plastic rivets or screws to install it?

Again, thank you.

It ok to take it out, remove the cover, remove air filter on the p/s, un crew some bolt, I'm in California so it not wet , if u r in wet area, u don't want water or to much dirt in to engine compartment , this is the part # for the plastic rivet # es2091819. Mfg#51118174185. It giong to 2 small parts on both side at the end of the seal, I believe u need about 6 it cost $1.49 cent each, the metal crew to hold the middle piece together with both side, I don't have the part# cause my still intact, call ecs tuning when u order so they know or go to dealer , good luck again
