K & N Air Filter

Hit Send before you were ready? Been there, done that too many times due to fat fingers and a useless, hand-me-down (from my wife) iPhone with a terrible keyboard.

A properly setup turbo engineed vehicle moves LOTS of air, so the factory box and filter must be pretty good and then there's the waste gate to dump any excess. Not sure an aftermarket filter without a new box would make much difference.

Jad, I trust you inferred the question as I don't see any text in the original
post, hence my self-depracating reply earlier. That said, I agree with your
thoughts as expressed.

I drive a 91 850i and the majority of posts I looked into resulted in my approach of discarding the idea of introducing a K&N air filter. I think that the danger lies in the area of too much oil in the filter, which in turn negatively impacts the MAF units on the cars, and even frys them in some instances. These little devils are so expensive that I went the conservative route and simply stuck with OEM products, betting that the folks in Germany put alot of money into the engineering of the vehicle to arrive at the final build.

I plan on sticking with this same game plan with the 2013 550iGT that is circling somewhere off the coast of Mexico right now.......dang ship captain.

I am sure there are many individuals out there who may argue the point, but with the repair costs for a BMW, I determined it was not worth taking a chance. That said, my 850 beauty is kind enough to break down on me in all sorts of other ways to keep life challenging.
