I have a 99 323i 5eed and it has approx 185,xxx miles. Car is in good shape but just yesterday check engine light came on and at the same time lost a bit of power. Shift knob was vibrating as well as the pedals. Car idle was low and seemed to start to stall but never did. Car has lost some power and is shaky. Went to autozone and codes say misfire in cylinder 3. Not sure where to start or what to do... Car is still drivable.

Probably just an ignition coil. swap that coil with another and you should see the code move to that cylinder.
I had the #3 go out on my 2000 323 years ago. No others since? anyhow, I got the replacement at O'Reilly's Auto Parts. The part came in a BWD (Borq Warner box. Part number E-383 , I think) but on the coil itself it said Bosch? BWD and Bosch must have merged or maybe BWD buys the coil from Bosch, and makes the rest, I dunno, but it worked. |

Remove the coil from cylinder 3 and switch it with the coil from cylinder 4, then scan it for codes again. If the misfire follows the coil, you know it's bad and replace it. (Or maybe at your mileage, replace all)
Damn, you beat me to the punch.

This is it...it is the same on your car.. Part # 886 superceded by E-383. This was OEM part for my 2000 323, identical to what I removed. Like I said, the box states BWD but the part was a BOSCH? My point, if this is your problem, you want to buy exactly the same type as what you pull out or else you need to change all six. Mine said Bosch on it when I removed it. Some cars had the BREMI's installed...like my 330ci...see this link for BREMI and other brands. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/se...=1999&make=BMW Last edited by QAfred; 11-05-2012 at 04:39 PM. |
