X5 Cargo Floor Panel

Received my new X5 on Tuesday and have been busy exploring all of it's features. Can anyone tell me if the cargo floor panel is supposed to stay open on it's own when raised? I've seen some pictures that show a hydraulic cylinder meant to keep it open, but mine does not have that.

This was a custom job someone did on their car. It is NOT a BMW standard or optional feature. The cargo floor panel is not supported by anything and thus will not stay open on its own.

It's not a BMW standard or order-able option, at least in the US (If you chase some of the additional threads noted downstream in the link above, it sounded like it might be standard on European models.), but it is all being done with BMW parts (some substitutes have been done/attempted) and brackets fit into pre-drilled holes in the cargo cover, so it's undoubtedly going to look completely like it was there from the start.

Not standard here in Canada either. Easy fix, you can order the strut from the dealer.

It was std on 2008 but got value engineered out of at least my 2011. They also took out the cargo cover but had to put it back in as dealers also revolted.

Installed the pressurized hinge today. Works great and makes the storage area much more functional.
