Soft close doors are available

While my local dealer was doing a locate to try and find a car for me, he came across a 650GC with soft close doors listed as an option. It's not listed anywhere in the ordering info, but I have a fax from him with the options list and it is there. I will post the fax...

I received confirmation from my dealership's Sales Manager this morning:

"BMW NA as of November 9th came with mid -year production change which is effective January 3, 2013 and soft close doors has become a stand alone option."

They gave me the option of passing on my GC, which is now on a boat, and re-ordering for a January/February production slot. While I'd like soft-close doors, I'm going to stick with my current order and just bitch about it for the next 24 months. Ha.

No other changes? Just soft close doors? It's still odd that the above car is already on a lot though.

I was told that the option can now be added to builds, but it will push the build back to January.

Yeah, I am not worried about it that much. It would be nice to have, but not something I would wait for.

Just went to the bmwusa build site, it seems like they updated it. It doesn't have soft close doors yet, but it does work a whole lot better than it used t.

I noticed that (about the site), too. It was nice of my dealership to offer me an out and rebuild, but like you, I don't think it's worth waiting for. (Plus, I want to get my 2012 CCA rebate, as I plan to use the 2013 CCA rebate on my wife's replacement vehicle.)

How difficult is it to retrofit this kit? Where do you get power for the motorized latch module? I saw a post where a user runs power cables all the way to the trunk which is a lot of work.

Thank you

Is this for the soft close doors or the trunk? If it for the doors, don't waste your time/money. With the windows dropping down a bit for open/close, the soft close door option is completely worthless on this car. You can barely shut the doors and they will still close without the use of the soft close feature.

Now my wife's 2014 MDX - my GOD that car could use soft close doors. Probably 50% of the time we need to re-close a door that did not close properly.

For soft close doors, I agree that it isn't necessary, and I also heard that it breaks over time. I just thought it might be a good hobby to do over a weekend.

Being an early adopter is pretty lousy, my car doesn't have soft close door and iDrive is still the older version. I also don't get shadow line trim w/ M sport and it comes regular instrument cluster not the full LCD cluster. Also, older steering wheel. If retrofitting them all aren't too bad and not too expensive, then I might do them all. However, according to bimmertech-tech site:

NBT Navigation Retrofit
Activation: Hardware Activation - Voice Control
and Navigation (+ $ 530.67)
Multifunctional Instrument Panel Retrofit
iDrive Touch Controller Retrofit
Soft Close Automatic Retrofit

Total: $8 101.44

May be I should just trade it in.

Well the full LCD cluster is not as nice as the regular cluster IMHO. Almost gimmicky? Also rumor has it the older steering wheel feels better (better hand positions if you will?) than the newer one. Sometimes change isn't all that great

Ouch, $3K no bueno. If it costed around $500 I'd consider it, otherwise probably would be better to just pay the difference for a 2014 if I want it that bad.

Why the #*$#*$#* does BMW introduce all the technology a year or two later on the 6GC! The F10 is always technically more advanced. The GC is mechanically more advanced at least when it comes to chassis/steering/suspension/N55HP engine, which is ultimately more important (and you sure are paying for that) but always technologically behind it.

They do strange things at BMW - but I suspect there is a reason behind it. I'll never know/understand why the new touch controller took an extra year for the 6 series (I thought it would not fit?) - but it did. Still the 6 got the new dash first (yuck) and yes, thank you for agreeing with me on the steering wheel. My neighbor has had both and echos your comments exactly.
