Extended Warranty

I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck with getting an extended warranty for their BMW. I've got a 2004 530i with only 48k on it and I'd like to get the warranty ASAP, preferably through BMW.

Have you talked to your BMW dealer yet to see what your options are?

I have a Route 66 extended warranty on my 2008 XiT only available through Credit Unions. Bought it before factory warranty ran out. Don't know if/how they cover older cars...

I have a 05 530i and i purchased the mechanical breakdown protection plan through my bank when I financed it. I paid about 3k for the gold protection with $50 co pay. It was through mercury insurance. I just used it to replace oil pan gasket and oil filter housing gasket. Mechanic called the insurance to make a claim they approved it and paid instantly with a credit card. Since he was doing my brakes and oil change he didnt even charge me the co pay. That job paid for the plan already.

What company is it ?

Mercury insurance is the carrier and they call it MBP ( mechanical breakdown protection)

is it exclusionary ?

No. Im sure anyone can purchase this.

Fidelity Platinum is the best plan for a BMW you can buy. It is exclusionary which is the best you can get. I have the plan on my car and it's like a factory bumper to bumper, have never even had to deal with them, BMW service advisors do all the work and they say Fidelity Platinum is the best they deal with.

Whatever you decide to get you should get the highest level avail. I spent $2500 through CNA 6 months ago and have already used it to the tune of $900 to fix a leaking gasket. I have $100 deductible. They're great to deal with and the largest in the country. No muss, no fuss. However, having said that. Getting he warranty through BMW will allow you access to their bumper to bumper warranty just like buying a new bimmer comes with. The downside is that it is very expensive (like $2k) and its only good for a year.
