Remote starter

Since my local dealer doesn't offer the installation of a remote starter, I am contemplating the use of an aftermarket shop. Has anyone gone this route and what are your thoughts?

It might be a challenge getting it to work right.

Have you tried using the programmable ventillation in the car? It helps in the summer if you know when you're coming back. Also, good window tinting (I got some 3M stuff that works extremely well) limits heat gain. None of that might be a big deal in the PNW, though.

FWIW, one of the worst things for the car is to sit there idling - in the winter, the cold weather package really makes things comfy almost immediately.

Dont try it..i have wanted remote start in my BMW's for years...hate that so many lower priced cars offer it and we cant have it... being in the northeast the option of getting into a nice warm car is huge....

The shop that does all of my electronics..is one of the top shops in the NY area and he wont let me even try it.. and he does dozens of after market remote starters on other brands...

he keeps his ears open for me and has even been working with Viper on the part numbers needed to make their starter or escort's starter work with a dimmer....

count on the fact that when he finds one he is confident in i will have it and bimmerfesters will know about it....]

I have the luxury of a heated garage, so except when I'm out for a long time, I don't see a big need. If I had to clean snow or ice off it every day, I might change my opinion.

The best thing for the car is to get in it and start driving, though...not sit there and idle.

The bimmerfest f07 thread has spoken. Thanks everyone for your input! I'd rather have the minor inconvenience of walking out to warm the car over having my expensive toy ruined. :-)
