E60 short throw shifter install questions
OK, this is going in my '02 330ci. I have looked at a lot of DIYs but I still have a couple of questions.
1). To pull the old shifter out which way do you turn the white bushing that it sits in? One DIY says counter clockwise, the other says clockwise. Does it matter? 2). Installing the new shifter do you just push the white bushing in place or do you twist it as well? Locks in place? 3). What should I use to lubricate the shifter ball and bushing? White lithium grease is often mentioned, and I have that. But is there something that the 'Festers like better? 4). Down below, where the shift linkage pushes into the new shifter what is a good lubricant for that - white lithium grease again or is there something better? Any other tips anyone would like to mention? I have owned the car since new and it currently has 140,000 on it. As far as merit badges go (this borrowed from charlesberry) I've got the cooling system, front control arms and bushings (x2), RTAB bushings, Brakes (x3), numerous interior pieces and now the shifter (and fuel pump). Don't even want to mention the numerous flushes..... I'm just trying to keep from getting into the job and getting bushwhacked! Thanks for any input!
