Tpms

Hey guys. I just put on my winter tires with a set of 5 series rims I picked up. No TPMS on the rims.
I'm getting an error warning in my car and I went to the dealer to clear the error code and they said there's nothing I can do because the TPMS is missing. This was a service manager not a technician. Does that make sense?

My wife's a6 didn't have TPMS on her winter set and it doesn't have a error.

Makes sense since the TPMS is required for safety reasons.

I just put a different wheel on my car (no TPMS sensor) to get my original one touched up. I too got a TPMS error. Funny thing is that I didn't get the error for an hour after driving that way.

Can you just get the TPMS sensors and put them on the new wheels?

Get TPMS sensors from any online vendore (TireRack or such) - much safer. You can probably get the set for ~200-250 total. BMW re-learns the sensors, you do not need a service reset (anyone at Infinity reading this?). Too bad you did not get the wheels / rims with TPMS already installed
