Advice needed on 95 325i
I have an oil leak getting worse. Its the oil filter housing - quote was $625 for part and labor. I pulled off the air filter stuff so I can see and the oil filter housing is leaking around a plug on the rear of the housing. Can o-rings be bought for this? If so, where?
Or do I have to buy the whole thing as the mechanic said replace it at $325 for the part. When I do it, is there anything else I should replace when I remove the oil filter housing besides the gasket next to the block? I check and top off the oil regularly but it has been leaking a long time, do you think it damaged anything else around there that I should replace while at it? I also have a clicking noise that just started sounds like its around the alternator. Advice on these things? |

Unless the housing is cracked you don't need a new one. I'm sure the gasket just fail and it can be replaced. Google Oil FIlter Housing DIY and I'm sure there is something out there.
Nothing else to really do along with that job. Fix the leak and that's it. Please don't pay $625.

Any decent auto parts store will have an O ring assortment. Take your old ones out and match them up.
