2009 or 2010
Looking for some feedback. About to pull the trigger on a CPO X5. Originally I had picked out a 2009 X5 3.0 for $34k. Pretty loaded and mid 30s mileage. Now the same dealer has dropped the prices on the 2010s to $39k. The 2010s have the same equipment and were put into service the same month as the 2009 so the warranty is the same.
Would you spend $5k for an updated iDrive and one model year newer? Thoughts? Thanks!! |

In 2009 the "sport package" included AD. In 2010 the only way to get AD was to order it stand alone. Option 2VA. Delta is a $3500 option. Are you comparing apples to apples? If yes, go for the newer car, just negotiate a bit harder.

Neither. I'm with ard. Black is terrible and the 09 car isn't that great either when you can spend a little bit more and get a '10 with the new iDrive

I liked the silver too. They have a blue one with tan interior and white with black interior too (similarly optioned)

Russ- Why a CPO?
If you say "Oh, I just want a clean car with a 100k warranty" there are many ways to do that. If you think a CPO is some kind of 'cherry' car, that is deeply backed by BMW and the dealer, you need to get educated.. Ideally you want to find someone returning a lease, and see if you can scoop that up and add a BMW Gold warranty to it. Get a thorough PPI, and you'll have a 'home made CPO'

I believe the 5K also includes a better engine and a 8 speed gearbox, if it has the new Idrive..?
From wiki; "2010/2011 X5 "Life Cycle Impulse" (LCI) Changes 2011 BMW X5 xDrive35d In 2010 the X5 underwent a "Life Cycle Impulse" (LCI) update, debuted at the New York Auto show in April 2010 and introduced as 2011 models in BMW North America markets. The changes included revised styling, primarily of the front and rear bumpers, air intakes and headlights as well as new exterior and interior colors and new options combination. It also included BMW Group's latest infotainment system. More significantly, a new range of engines, all turbocharged and with direct injection was introduced. In the North American market, available gasoline power trains are the xDrive 35i twin-scroll turbo six-cylinder and the xDrive50i twin turbo V8, both coupled to an eight-speed automatic Steptronic transmission. These petrol engines are more powerful and lighter than their predecessors, with the 35i also providing improved fuel mileage and reduced emissions. The xDrive 35d turbo diesel carries over in the NA market with the six-speed transmission unchanged from the previous model year. The xDrive40d was also introduced along with a revised xDrive30d, but neither are currently available in the North American market.[9]" |

The 2010 ones still have the same engine/transmission as the 2009 that I've looked at. In my area the private sale x5s are all the same prices (or more actually) than the CPO ones. Any that are less typically have a lot more miles (over 50 or 60k) and aren't worth it for me.
Are the prices different in CA? |

You may be confusing asking price with selling price. You should spend some time trying to understand the relationships between the original MSRP, the lease residual, what BMWFS offers these cars back to the dealer for and what dealers are paying for trade in. Resale value seems to be driven down to residual (not precisely, but this s a major influence) GL A

2011
Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I expanded the search and now have my sights on a 2011 X5 Premium with the convenience package cold weather package. It's not CPO but the price ($37k) with 27k miles is right. It's Blue/Black
EDIT: long story short this dealer was atrocious (Hudson Hyundai in Jersey City, NJ). I made an appt, verified it twice, and then when I showed up at the appointed time (11am), there was no car there!! Seems the GM took the car home the previous night (probably to show off to his girlfriend or something!!) and then didn't bother to come in. No one called me to reschedule or anything. I was mighty pissed after driving nearly 2 hours to get there. They tried to get me to wait around until 2pm when they expected him to show up). I asked them to have someone go get the car from him but they refused - they were afraid of him. I left the dealer fuming. I got several calls from the dealer but they lost my sale. What a joke... In hindsight i could've called the dealer before I left but in my previous confirmation call the prior day, they seemed annoyed that I was confirming the appt. Who would think a used car wouldn't be there? If it was a loaner car or similar i could understand but a used car that is not even a Hyundai? Last edited by russ8128; 12-04-2012 at 03:10 PM. |
