6 Series
The BMW 6 Series builds on BMW's sporty heritage with aggressive lines and an incredible motor to back the design up. Available in coupe and convertible trims with a standard 4.8 liter engine producing 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, the 6-series is a popular choice that exceeds expectations. |

Replacment for the Chrome/Titanium "insert" on old-style shift knob?
I have an '05 645Ci, and like many the fake metal insert on the shifter has flaked and looks terrible. The rest of the shifter looks good, so I was wondering if there is a replacement for the insert (or if anyone has one lying-around in good shape). I saw in another thread it does come off, but I'm fairly certain there is no part number for just the insert. Any ideas?
On a related not the brushed titanium trim on the shifter surround has "rubbed-off" in spots and exposed the bright chrome underneath. I don't suppose there is anything that can be done with that other than stripping and repainting or replacement? Thanks, Greg |

I had the same issue with my auto knob and wrapped it in silver carbon fibre when I did the rest of the dash. I have to say I think it looks great and will take a picture later.

I removed and stripped and painted mine with Dupli-Color Stainless Steel and a couple coats of clear Lacquer.
http://www.duplicolor.com/products/stainless/ It's pretty-close, but not close enough for my liking. I'll take some pictures. The tabs on the top of the insert broke-off when removing, but they aren't needed since it hold on pretty-tightly from the side tabs. |

A little too much on the sparkle to match. You can see the rubbed-off area on the shifter surround as well. Was hoping I could repaint it as well but would be different enough I'd have to repaint all the trim. I'll probably end-up replacing the knob with a different one and wrapping all the trim.

Trim kits on Ebay are another idea. I've seen a lot of used sets pulled from wrecks.
