E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993. |

Replacement rims for e30
I have an 85 e30 and the stock rims are 14's. look like little bike rims. What size can I upgrade to without replacing shocks and springs?

16s. anything bigger looks wrong. but you have to get the correct spacing and tire.

Don't put 16" wheels on stock suspension. It will increase your wheel gap and just look silly IMO

I just put a new suspension a year ago so maybe i will just out 15's. these 14's just look so tiny and small. Have plenty of room for a bit larger

In reality, the wheel gap does not increase. Your perception in relation to tire sidewall height and fender gap makes it seem larger. I'm running 17s with offsets 20 and15 without any issues. I also dropped the car 40mm to eliminate wheel gap.

Dumb question: what do u mean by 20 and 15 offsets? What is the exact measurements of the 17's u have.

Quote:
It is the space between the hub and centerline of the wheel. an offset of +45 means that the hub mounting face is 45mm towards the outside of the wheel from the centerline of the wheel itself, and 0 offset means the hub mount face is exactly in the middle of the wheel

I'm running 17x7.5 rims. The 15mm rear wheel offset allowed me to bring the wheels closer the fender well. This gives the rear a fuller, tucked look.
