i took my car to a mechanic who plugged in a code reader for me. Where is the best place to find what the codes refer too?

If you have the simple 5 digit OBD II "DTC" codes...they are everywhere. The whole purpose of the 1996 federal OBD II mandate...was to make everything simple and easy across the board to monitor the electronic emissions systems on all cars.

The regular DTC codes can be found be simply googling "OBD II codes". If your indy had a specific code reader that uses its "own" codes...then you'll need to either post up what equipment was used and hope that another forum member has that info to share...or google the brand and see if you can find it. But again, if it is the regular DTC codes...you can't go anywhere on the internet without "tripping" over the thousands of results you'll find.

Breakdown of DTC codes based on OBD II

For example, if you got the generic OBD II code as described above...and the code number was P0303...just type "OBD II code po303" into a google search box...and note how many results you'll get.
