iPhone Music Streaming

When I pair my iPhone via BT (bluetooth), I get the option to stream music via BT. However, the moment I plug my phone in to the cable in the car (standard white iPhone cable that comes w/ the phone), it removes the option to stream via BT from then on and I have to unpair and repair my phone to get it back. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Fix is simple: do not plugin iPhone over USB.

Thats basically like me taking my car to BMW and telling them that the engine smokes when I drive it, and they say, don't drive it.

I would hope that there would be more of a "fix" than not using my phone. However, after the latest problems I have had, I wouldn't be surprised if that is my only option w/ this car.

Short answer: Get cigarette light adapter and charge iPhone that way.

Long Answer: due to BMW apps their system already can intercept audio through USB. So getting another stream from same device probably makes their handling of double connection complete mess.

So, yes, this is not so convenient, but one needs to decide: do you want to use touch interface (I personally believe touch is superior) or iDrive and connect respectively.

Yes. It disables the BT steaming option once the phone is connected via USB. However, as I recollect, the BT streaming reappears once the USB connection is removed. No need to unpair/re pair.

If it would reconnect when the USB was removed, I'd be happy, however, it stays disabled for my phone. I am wondering if I have something setup correctly, or if there is an update somewhere that I'm missing.

My BT streaming stays disabled after disconnecting as well. Frankly, with BT streaming I don't have a reason to plug the phone into the car anymore...

I plug in through cigarette lighter adapter to charge iPhone.

If you are only plugging in the phone to charge it, then I would recommend plugging it in to the glovebox USB jack. It will not disable any settings when doing so.

I believe with BT streaming the control of the playlists is only from the iPhone correct?
With USB connection all music is controllable via idrive along with album art, which seems much more complete.
Am I missing a setting for BT streaming that allows more usability?

Yes, I meant regarding audio. I usually charge at home or office- my iPhone 5 eats batteries for lunch.

No, you are correct. But frankly I find it so much easier to control things with an actual apple interface in my hand (iPhone) vs BMW's version. I don't use album art- I prefer the map screen and song info in split screen...

Key Point: UX. Many people would think that iDrive sux comparing to touch screen input on iPhone itself. (remember, whole smart phone revolution started by bold move of Steve Jobs who ditched physical keyboard for direct touch input? There are several reasons why human brain prefers direct touch input over extra level of abstraction introduced by screen in one place and control is distant, not attached, discconnected from controlled element and using different kind of physical movements: rotate/push handle)

I have the same problem in my f06. I suppose we could load out tunes directly into the combox which, if your music is 229kbs or higher, as I understand it, will sound best and not use phone battery.

Hmmm....slightly off topic, but after reading this thread I am wondering if going BT would allow me to stream music from the iCloud (Match Play). Going USB only recognizes songs that are actually on the iPhone.

When you connect over BT you can stream almost anything, because you still have to navigate on iPhone itself.

You can actually stream from 3rd party apps too ( Spotify, etc) if developers support BT output (most of the do, as it's trivial option to implement)

This is *super* annoying, but it's across most vehicles. Land Rover does the same thing -- it always prioritizes hardwired audio over Bluetooth, when I just want the USB port to charge.

Just charge it via a cig adapter. Annoying, but hey...

Is the data transfer better via Bluetooth or the USB cable?

Sorry, I can't predict the future- other than to say that someday wires will be a thing of the past...
