Need Assistance, Please!
Hi folks,
I am an avid BMW fan but never had the money to get one, now I am a position to get into a used one. I have two deals, one is $20K for a 2008 328Xi, it is a CPO(until Aug 2014) with 46K miles, clean history, 1 owner and well maintained with 12 service record. The other is a 2006 325 Xi, it is sold by a independent dealer for 16K and has 53K miles, clean history, also has 1 owner, was leased and then bought, but there are only 3 service records. Both the car drives almost similar, but the difference in price is 4K, I can buy the old car and keep this 4k in the bank and see if the car requires work then I will spend, if not than I will save. But is it really worth going for the CPO and paying more upfront. I will be getting a PPI done, but I need to get to a decision so need the BMW experts opinion. Is the 4k really worth the CPO and 2 year. Thanks, Hanro

I don't know how the prices in your area compared to here in Arizona, but the 2008 is a good deal out here.

I would go for the newer one, only $4k more plus the '06 should have had at least one oil change per year or at least 6 or 7 services.

Where are you seeing the services listed? If CarFax that is meaningless. You could sail an oil tanker through the holes in reporting that a CarFax can have. I'm inclined to recommend the '06. If it has an automatic transmission it has a better performing unit than the '08. Get the VIN for the '06 and swing by the BMW dealer service department and ask them to see if they see any red flags. They probably won't let you see the report they have access to, but they should be willing to look at it and tell you what services it shows. With the '06 in particular you should get a pre-purchase inspection before buying. Good luck.

Hi tturedraider, Thanks for your tip, I will take the VIN number to BMW dealer and get the records, I saw only the carfax which showed the 3 service records. Yes it is a automatic transmission.
Hi David Williamso and CALWATERBOY, Thanks for your encouragement for buying the newer cars. Hi Bmr3sn, I have been checking the website for 6 weeks, and almost know all the CPO cars in my neighborhood, that's how I got this deal Thanks everybody I will let you know what happens. |
