X1 is better than X3?
I'm thinking trade my 2007 X3 for X1. Is it a good idea?
Thanks! Last edited by scott195512; 01-12-2013 at 06:30 AM. |

Of course not. X1 is big failure (if you want the same car for less, get a Subie Impreza).

You haven't given the forum much to work with. Why are you looking to trade? What are you looking for? What's your budget?
As for me, I won't trade my X3 for an X1, because the new X1 does not come with a manual transmission. It looks great, and the slightly smaller size fits my needs really well. But it really depends what you want. |

+1. My question is: What do you want a crossover for? What purpose? Because this will determine whether a X1 is "better" than the E83.

I don't care for the X1 however if you get one with the 3.5 turbo stuffed in it -- then you have a serious machine! So, if going fast is the object then, yes it is "better" than an X3.

Looks and style are subjective so I wont comment on them.
THE X1 wins at: -better on Gas -will put in a faster lap on a track (which you will 99% never go to) -build quality and reliability slightly improved (although some bits of the interior look cheaper) All the rest is in favour of the X3... |

Plus, remember that the X1 also comes in RWD... that alone shows that it has no soul purpose in life

It has a 2000 kg braked tow limit, what are you looking to tow?

Not here (Aus) - X1 is 1400Kg braked. X3 is 2000kg, is that what you mean? But then again, the X3 3.0d is commonly listed as 1800kg on internet sites but my user manual states 2000kg so who knows.

The Euro braked limit is 2000, might have different restrictions in Australia. In the US you'd have to fit the Euro bumper to install the Euro tow hitch, I'm not sure what bumper they have in Aus.

I tow a 5x8 enclosed trailer with my race bikes...about 1500-1700 unbraked pounds

The unbraked rating is 750 kg, so you're looking at the upper end of it.

I recently had my 2007 X3 in for service and they gave me an X1 4cyl FWD with sport and technology packages. $42k, no xenons, no heated steering wheel, the transmission is constantly shifting, the annoying start/stop function that defaults to on that I constantly turned off because the car wouldn't start fast enough after I took my foot off the brake. No thanks. The E83 is a better built vehicle--it's more solid, and after driving the X1, makes me deal with the annoying 6sp a little easier.
The 4cyl engine seems good on it's own, but all the other annoyances ruin it. |
