). Of course the dealer is going to charge higher prices...you noticed their "crystal palace" when you drove in...employees all over the place. It probably costs them $5 grand just to ulnlock the doors in the morning. Steal as many donuts as you can while you're there.

Can't say. Might you be getting another estimate from someone who can look at the car? |

Take your "estimate" to an independent garage, ask if they can give you a significantly better price IF all the repairs/service items are in fact necessary. Include the cost of getting the car from the dealer to the indy's shop, if you don't have a towing service or the indy won't take care of it. Also take into account a loaner/rental if the car is going to be down for more than a day or so. Dealers are pretty good about supplying loaners. Also try negotiating with the dealer, many are willing to work with you on the price.

I prefer not to open files from unknown sources. Sorry, but you are an unknown source. Copy paste the details here? Use less !!!!!! points.
I'd argue with them. If you just bought the car, and it comes with a warranty why is the car not fully covered. This is not a simple "deductible". You need to ask, why is XYZ not covered and base it off the warranty. For example, if the warranty says it will cover everything but an alternator, and your alternator breaks then you are screwed...but if everything else breaks that is the case. As for their outrageous prices - find yourself a good indy shop.

Coolant flush is pure BS so the rest of the estimate is suspect like a water pump @ 40K miles - take the car someplace else

Here's my take, since i've done almost all this before
OEM battery is 100% worth it Water Pump/Thermostat should be a little more than half that price Coolant flush is a $10 too much Oil filter housing gasket is a $10 part and maybe 4 hours labor, Maximum price $550 Underbody panels? the pastic ones? they've been missing on my car for years.

BMW prices don't seem out of line for what they said you have going on. However you need to discuss this with the dealer you purchased this from. Can we assume it was a BMW dealership, the one listed? Probably the reason they want to do the coolant flush is they are replacing the water pump and tstat thus they drain a lot out.
Tischer BMW is where I usually buy my OEM parts Water pump is 420 plus shipping Tstat is 91.66 plus shipping So factory parts at the best discount I know about is around 530 because shipping will be around 20 bucks Price quoted is 784 plus labor at 3.5 hours vs the 530. So as reported 1.49 times more expensive than you buying it yourself. http://www.trademotion.com/parts/200...iagram=1942075 Go verify the price of the parts yourself so you can determine if you are OK with what the dealer is charging Why was the car towed? Was the battery dead? Please post more information about the dealship warranty. As reported many times once you get this sorted out either become more of a DIYer or find a good independent shop that you can trust. I would get a 2nd opinion on the need for the repairs since you are getting a lot done. I would also check why the $2K is what the warranty will pay. |

People still give hand-written estimates? I'd prefer even a shade-tree mechanic that could give me an estimate written in Word to a "dealer" with a hand-written estimate. But, maybe I'm being elitist.

I was surprised at that myself. This is a BMW dealership which provided the quotation. I was surprised it wasn't some form of computerized printout.

as far as charging flush coolant while replacing WP/tsat (tech already drains the coolant anyway), is the real coolant flush involve unplugging the coolant plug in th eengine, hard to reach since the plug is between cylinder 3 and 4.

I appreciate things that are hand made but this estimate... I would seek an alternative opinion, but understand the issue of having it towed from one place to another is yet another expense. Take this "estimate" to a reputable Indy shop in your area see what they can come up with.

If you just bought the car, it should be under warranty. Does the contract say $2000 max? If it doesnt, talk to a lawyer.

5.6 hours for the oil filter housing gasket is unbelievable.

Yeah well the whole thing is messed up and I don't like how they priced it out.
They priced each job at shop book value and totally failed to realize to do the Oil filter housing gaskets means dropping the coolant and engine oil to do. So 3 items they quoted all need coolant draining yet they try to get the op pay for it 3 times ![]() Just what my dealer tried to do also and I laughed at the service manager and asked if he had some legal representation to back him up that I was paying labor on them draining the coolant 3 times. (my car needed the same thing done) So they removed the time to change the coolant from the oil filter housing change.
