Keyless Entry
Just installed a universal keyless entry in my 2001 Z3 but can't get the doors to do anything. Does anyone know what it takes to activate the door locks? Is it a 12 volt signal? Or, what?

If I remember correctly, the key had to be programmed.
I vaguely remember doors being opened & closed while the key buttons were pressed. Sorry I don't remember more. Fred |

For the 98 Z3 Roadster you need to have 12 volts on the relay pack common line to feed to the alarm port lock and unlock points.
I am getting ready to instal an aftermarket alarm myself and have also purchased the relay pack to have the alarm control the doors. Mind you, I haven't done this yet, but will be getting to it soon. You should check the diagrams for your year car to be sure. |

I recently installed an aftermarket alarm system with keyless entry system on my 98 Z3. It was completely compatible with the pre-wired system. I simply plugged in the module, the tilt and shock sensors and mounted the alarm. System car locks worked great, plus it will automatically roll up the windows and lock the doors and trunk when remotely turning on the alarm system. I additionally wired in a microwave sensor that will detect movement within the parameter of the cab.

Thanks for that nfunk, can you be more specific and share the make & model of aftermarket system? Did you take any pictures you can share?

I didn't take any pictures, I should have. The only difficult part was removing the glove box to mount the module and I mounted both sensors on top of the car's CPU module. The only other problem was finding a place to mount the siren. I fabricated a bracket and mounted on the two bolt holes on the side of the oil filter. Like I said, everything plugged into the pre-wired harness that I believe comes with all Z3's.
I purchased the system on EBAY similar to this one. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=...at=0&_from=R40 It is made by United Auto Security http://unitedautosecurity.net/Default.aspx The company has good support and email communications. |
