quiet muffler/ faster acceleration

Hey Guys,

Just bought my first car. Its An '88 325i. the muffler is loud and I want to know what other, quieter options are out there, and cost to put on my car. Also, the car accelerates pretty slow, you can feel the heavy drag when I press the gas. What can I do, if anything, to fix this?

Start with Insp2 service and a tune up. Then wheel alignment. If still bad performance get the injectors cleaned. If yours in a belt drive cam - change the belt if you are doubtful about it's age.

as far as quieter options you can always get a stock muffler from a junk yard there are always those there no one wants them. But if you dont want stock and are able to drop some cash id suggest surfing youtube under E30 exhaust and see what you like then get that

You can get an Bosal or Ansa rear muffler-little or no increased noise or benefits. The Eberspacher is an OEM option with a sporty tone, but still quiet. Supersprint gives you the benefits of stainless steel, sporty tone, and slight power increase. Many videos on youtube show E30s with Magnaflows mufflers. If you go that route, there is a fine line between increased noise (drowning), lower back pressure, and increased horse power. Losing too much back pressure can result in a loss of low end torque. This might be what you're feeling.

muffler sounds is always subjective, and there may not be anything wrong with your current setup, it may just have a hole in the pipes.

+1 to what people said about acceleration "issue" but remember this is a 25 year old car, its not going to be quick anyways

age is but a number doesnt mean it cant b quick

Making an old car 'quick' is just $'s. Fix brakes and suspension before 'quick'. Boreing but way safer.

mine has a full exhaust to the headers havent changed them yet..no cat big cherry bomb/glasspack instead not sure which one thinking cherry but it makes my car sound nice with a deep tone
