Finally some clean PICS of my new F10....
Wanted to post these in a separate/new thread as they're after throwing even more money at keeping this black properly detailed (so I deserve to show it off
). And this is after just TWO WEEKS with the car. Got an extensive clay, polish, sealant (and then wax on top of the sealant), etc. done and the car looks incredibly sharp, but in BRIGHT sunlight you can STILL see hologram/subtle swirly marks. From what I've been told is it'll be about impossible to keep it completely free of miniscule scratches (that are on every car but only show up so well on black). Man this color looks unreal on this car, IMO, but I can't ever really look at it in sunlight and analyze the paint too closely, or I'll go nuts.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Looks great KA. Big difference compaired to the plastic-barge W212?

Oh yes. I really hate to diss the E as I spent a lot of time loving that car, and I STILL like that car in pre-facelift mode, but it's almost unfairly ridiculous how much better this car is, especially as a technological and mechanical DEVICE, no comparison in that aspect, really. Interior, drive, just all around "feeling".... this car makes you feel more alive yet comforted and coddled at the same time. It's just a sexier overall car for sure.

If you have holograms, you need to get it polished. Some good paint correction can do wonders.

Nice pics, jet black is a great color, I almost went with jet black but change my mind the last minute. I dont like washing and detailing car so I went with dark graphite instead, a bit better in hiding dirt and swirl marks.

Looks familiar!?!?!
Where have I seen that car???? LOL. It looks nice K-A, you know I dig it. You are right-on about no other color being as nice as a clean/polished Jet Black!! No offense to you non J-B’s out there….well...maybe a little. Oh and Mr. Decaf is right, holograms are generally easily removed with a light polish. On your cars paint (speaking from extended experience here) using a D/A and a very light finishing compound/pad combo, you can remove most holograms, swirls and other very light defects. Welcome to Jet Black hell…Don’t let people look at your car too long, I swear ocular fixation can mar jet black paint……so can photos …or humidity…or…well you get the point. Often Most people will think your paint is perfect...but you when know a swirl or spot is there…your eyes go to it every time….it mocks you… has you agonizing over it…occupies your thoughts while seeking-in-vain a time when you can correct it….it consumes your weekends…causes back pain and eyestrain… Well anyway. Congrats! It looks great! Except for that little……. ![]()

BTW, is this Hand Glaze especially formulated for black or something? Is it a Wax? I was recommended it by someone as well. Will look into it. Quote:
![]() Yeah I just had the car buffed a SECOND time (first time was at the dealer and my mistake to take it to a Hand Wash after just two weeks swirled it all up) in two weeks, and although it's WAY better than before, there are still some swirls and holograms around. I guess the guys weren't the best buffers? They did a clean, clay, polish, seal, and then wax on top of the seal. The car looks stunningly bright and is probably very protected but they definitely didn't make it flawless in terms of swirls in bright sunlight. To be fair the Manager told me "With a black car you'll never see it completely swirl free in bright sunlight". I guess I'm just gonna have to hold off for 6 or so months and check my sanity levels by then. Then thereafter I will actually finally get a RIGHT detail done to the car. Maybe try out "Opticoat 2". Oh, and I'm gonna try and diligently use my California Car Duster to help the new wash look stay for longer than 10 minutes.... My goal is 20 minutes! ![]() Quote:

Looks good. Enjoy it for a while, you are going to stress yourself out. Black cars are as beautiful as they are difficult to maintain. From the looks of it you are in Southern Ca - so you should understand full well what i mean...

Here is a tip from someone like me who only gets black cars, park in the shade when you show the car off...stay out of the sunlight unless that baby was just waxed. Tip #2 - 3M hand glaze is your friend, get to know her reallllly well.
Also I hate you for being able to not have a front license plate, I wonder how much the ticket is in NY and if I should just do the same when my car gets delivered and just pay the fine each time. ______________________________ Car on order: 2013 BMW 535i Xdrive, msport, Jet Black/Cinnamon Dakota leather Current car: 2010 MB W212 Black/Black Previous car: 2008 MB W211 Black/Black Last edited by DieselNY; 01-15-2013 at 09:07 AM. |

Very nicely detailed car! Looks sweet.
Totally agree with problems with keeping dark colors clean. I just got a Carbon Black Metallic (IMO, best color on bimmer...heheh) and in SOCAL weather and wind it gets dirty soon as I take it out of the car wash.... Hate it.... I thought I would never get a dark car after a blk GS300 but here we are... |

I got the darkest I could get in the rear windows, and one step above that on the front two (I think 5% then maybe 20%?). Not sure about blacking out the grille as I like the contrast of the chrome with the black on the front (IMO the stock grille looks by far best on black than on any other color), but if I wanna change it for the sake of added diversity I think I'll go with the M5 grille.... IMO that'd be perfect for a black F10!MellowYellow: No prob and looks great! Yeah IMO black on the M Sport just looks so "right".

I agree, no black rims, no black grills etc. I hate when people black everything out I feel as if they totally ruin the car. A lot of the teenagers do that around my area. This is of course my opinion.
