Front license plate holder - black or body color?

My 550i M-Sport came with a white one matching the rest of my car...My X5 came with a black one NOT matching my car and my SA is telling me that you have to get them painted to match the body color. Is this accurate?

Yes. Mine was black also.

I opted to just not put the front plate on, and so far in the past three years haven't had an issue running without it.

Too late for that....but I didn't want to risk it here in VA, especially running a detector as well.

I used bulldog paint adhesion promoter and a can of duplicator paint to colorize my plate base...looks good to me. Or you can waste $150 bucks buying one that is your body color from a website.

That's what I did for the 650 after I got busted for no front license plate.

Plate bracket on the X5 is unpainted but since there is unpainted black trim all around it, no biggie.

Leave it black. The plate is an abomination- why 'honor it' visually with the paint treatment? I think painting odds and ends (flares, mud flaps, running boards, etc, etc,) all detract from the lines of the car body...IMO
