Z3 Sub box with 1 sub, anyone have one kicking around?

I just pulled the sub box in my 1999 with the HK business system and it is the two sub configuration. I had hoped it would be the 1 sub box so I could drop the kicker in there and be done with it (I really DO NOT want to build a custom box for this).

Anyone out there that has done a custom box and has the original 1 sub box willing to part with it? *Or* does anyone know of a write up (I can't find one) of how to modify the two sub box to accept one 6.5" sub? (not holding my breath on the second one

I think you are several years late for this. The single-speaker sub boxes are no longer available and have been bought-up by users making this same retrofit. It's pretty rare to find one now.

There is not much chance of retrofitting a single speaker into the 2-speaker box. The remaining holes are too large and in the wrong places.

You can replace the two speakers. If you're using the stock amp, just use two 5 1/4" 2- or 4-ohm speakers. (The originals were about 3 ohms). If you have an aftermarket sub amp, use two 8-ohm speakers wired in parallel with reversed polarity to create a single 4-ohm channel. (You have to reverse the polarity since they are mounted back-to-back).

Or you can make a sub box. It's not that hard. I made one out of fiberglass:

Ok thinking done. Gonna pop the stock sub back in and leave the car be. Ordered a new head unit, 2 channel amp, front speakers, and an infinity basslink powered sub. Came in under budget of $750 at $660 so I'm happy, and should be easy enough to install everything in an afternoon.

Now to scour around the forum for wire designations so I can just use the stock stuff. I'll be thrilled if I can get away with running minimal wires....

Here's what I have on the two different layouts, color codes translated to English, illustrated, and connector pin designations as well.

Not my work, but from a very industrious and helpful member on the other forum. Given the current requirements of the stock speakers/amps, the existing wiring will be fine. All the existing wiring is twisted-pair too so it is resistant to picking up noise. I upgraded my fronts to 85W per DRIVER on my components so I ran 16ga back up front from the new amp. The sub wiring in my '01 was already around 14ga, so I used the existing wiring for a 250W amp (about 8A at full output).
