Have 335, thinking to buy M3

I need your advice. I own a 335i bmw 2007 for a year and i'm ok with maintenance cost. I'm thinking to upgrade to an m3. Is it big difference in maintenance cost ? I drive a lot, i put about 80k miles in 1 year, so do you think m3 is good for everyday use ?

If you truly drive 80k a year I wouldn't do it. That's truck driving miles................Phil

OP, 80k miles per year...I'm going to state the obvious but that's a lot of driving. In general, the components on the M3 are going to be more expensive to replace plus average MPG will be less. From reading post of owners with high miles, say north of 50k, there doesn't seem to be any major areas of concern. But whether a standard or extended warranty, you would go through it within 15 months (give or take). What makes the M3 so appealing is that it is a great DD. However, how will the car be after 2-3 years and 160-240k miles, I don't believe there's enough data to know for certain.

For maintenance, fluid changes including the diff, gear, motor, brake and cooling. Additional will be whatever breaks.

If you are keeping the M3 for one year, except for the vehicle depreciation, you should be okay.

I just moved from a 2007 335i to a 2011 M3. My 335 had 83,000 miles and I was getting concerned of what would start "breaking". The twin turbos were a concern. I've always wanted a M3, so I made the move. My average annual mileage is around 18k and I think that's high. 80k? As others have posted, mileage will kill you. I went from ~20mpg around town here in Houston to 14.7 mpg on the M. As nhman stated, if you're only going to keep it for a brief time you may be ok but will take a good hit on value with that many miles.

Maybe if you plan to drive it into the grave since it will be impossible to sell after a few years with that mileage. Not easy to recommend something really fun to drive when you put 80k miles on it a year. It would be something like a Honda S2000 that gives you about 25 mpg average with Honda reliability and was not that expensive. The problem is they don't make them anymore.
