New ford escape
The other weekend I was driving my wife's CRV and hit a hog. So it's been in the shop for a week now. Our rental car has been a fully loaded turbo escape. Here is my take on it vs the new CRV.
The good: -direct injection -turbo -seat comfort -brakes -has a hand e brake! -no gas cap filling -rear ac vents (fl folk notice) The bad: -dead pedal is TERRIBLE. I'm 5-11 and my left leg is cramped up. The dead pedal needs to be pushed in more. Much more. I drove it for 1hr last night and my knee was killing me. -thing has a massive display. Every option. But no backup sensors or camera. And rearward visibility sucks. One should be standard. Dangerous. -bit of throttle delay. Not sure if its turbo lag or pedal delay like vw's have. -door panels feel kinda cheap. -mileage is terrible. Not sure which ecoboost it has, but I checked the fluids and tire pressure. Reset it. Avg 25-26. I always average 29-32 in the crv. -dash is hi tech but its a bit overwhelming. And I'm a tech geek. It needs more intuitive layout for starters. It's got to scare older folks. Ford did some cool stuff with the escape but they need to tweak some stuff. A for effort. But I'm happier with the new crv. Don't get me wrong, I could make a pro/con list for the CRV also, but like I said overall the new CRV hits the sweet spots better and my leg/knee are not cramped. And let's face it.... with $3.50/gas, this is not a performance car... 185HP is about the going rate for this class. It's a mom mobile, kids, traffic, stores.... Our CRV has plenty of power. MPG's is very important. You're talking a solid 5 - 6 MPG drop going from the CRV to the Escape in realworld conditions.

I wouldn't touch a new Escape for a while. Lots of recalls and stuff.

I didn't even check. what kind of recalls? I know my father inlaw said to park it outside of the garage b/c they have a recall about fire. Not sure if he was joking or not. But I am parking it outside. That's all I need, the rental car to burn the house down. All starts with the domino affect... LOL.
