Radio Amp/Melted Plug

Not sure if I am asking in the right forum? But I bought a 01 BMW X5 today and the radio had no sound, upon some investigation i found the amp in the rear compartment unbolted and unpluged. The inside of the plug looked as if it had some corosion and had melted. So I guess my question is, where can i get a good used amp for this x5 and why did it melt? Thanks for any help.

Things melt because they get really hot. Since the amp was unplugged and unbolted the amp probably short circuited because water got into that area. Should make sure that water is not allowed to accumulate or enter that area so that the new amp won't suffer the same faith as the old amp.

You need to determine which sound system you have, the standard system or the DSP system. Amps can be purchase from BMW re-cyclers, eBay, Craigslist, even on this forum in the for sale section.
