Used ECM and new EWS?
I put a new motor in my 740il, and a good used junkyard ecm, car cranks finally with used ecm, but i have no spark, i was wondering if i can just put a brand new EWS module in the car, and align it with the ECM, and not have to replace the key or anything else. I am 100% sure that the EWS module is not coded to the ECM as it is a used junkyard ECM. i do have codes in the ecm for ews antitheft.
All i need to know is if i can put a new ews4 module in the car, and code and align it to the good used ecm i currently have in the car, any help would be awesome! thanks so much! nate |

No...because EWS uses multiple components...and all have the same ISN (individual serial number) burnt into them. The DME/ECU, EWS control module, transmitter/receiver (on early EWS II models), and the key. They all have to have the same ISN...if not, the starter, ignition, and fuel will be affected.
