Compatibility of Nav system

Anyone know if the nav system and radio/monitor from a 2003 X5 would fit and work in a 2001 E38? I think the nav is MKIV but not sure if the monitor portion is compatible. Thanks in advance!

If screen aspect ratio is the same and they are both the same colour type then probably yes. Problem could be differently wired plugs - same functions but on different pin numbers. Check out those B 4 you risk plugging it in.

+1 the monitor. These are often advertised as fitting a variety of vehicles, but UK X5 monitors do not fit UK E38! Other market monitors are all left hand drive so will physcially fit L/H e38. The Mk IV nav will work fine-simple plug n play, nothing else needed.

Depends on where you at.. over here the x5 and 5 series radios and navs well fit in a e38... also a range rovers too.. check 5 series is 95-01 and x5 its 97-01 and range is 95-01. i think **** i got it written down. i called a bmw dealer here.. they told me plug in plug. but u will have to go to them to get the codes put in so it will all work right... im going aftermarket

Exchange of monitor and/or nav does not require re-coding

the amp is what needs to be coded...the e38/e39/e53 all use the same amp, but it is coded based on the equipped options & parameters of each vehicle. A used amp from an e39 put into an e38 or e53 will work, but the sound will be muddled because it is set-up for the interior dynamics of the 5 series...not the 7 or X5.
