2011 CPO vs 2013 X3 28i - advice needed
I'm new to this forum and have enjoyed reading it recently. I am seeking advice on two options I currently have of purchasing an X3.
2011 CPO 28i with 12K miles and Premium, Nav, Conv pkg (everything I need) for 37K. Or 2013 28i with all the same packages that would go for about 47K. Honestly i do see value in the CPO as I get essentially same warranty on it i.e. 4 more yrs from now as the new one. But I have two questions 1. Since MY11 was the first year for the renewed X3, were there any known issues that existed with that model year which got sorted out over the years? 2. I drove the 2013 one and liked it. But the 2011 has the I6 engine compared to the I4 on 2013. And I haven't driven 2011 since the dealership is kind of far. Do you guys know of any obvious differences in the engine feel and response. Which ones better? Thanks |

The '13 x3 has the auto start/stop (referred to as ASS by many
Having driven both models I think the I6 is a better "drivers car" and it's exhaust note sounds fabulous. The turbo 4 is not as refined IMO The only issue I had with the I6 equipped car I test drove was the throttle delay which made the accelerator pedal feel like a on/off switch. BMW has a TSB to address this issue. Other than that I believe the earlier cars had some wind noise associated with the wing mirrors which was also resolved. Personally? I like the new car smell. $10K is a fair bit of money... it's up to you. Last edited by lbjgh; 03-07-2013 at 11:11 AM. |

13 is better i think, there are some bugs in 11, 13 has most of them resolved, i would go for 13 for better gas mileage, less wind noise. i will be getting one in two months.

I am in the same shoes as you, looking for a loaded 2011 or a 2013. I started a thread a while back about known problems in the 2011 X3 and there doersnt seem to any except for the rattling pano roof which can easily be fix. I have drove both of the I4 and I6 engine and find the I6 smoother and sounded better, but the I4 was quicker and better gas mileage. I also looked into the BMW CPO warranty, there seems to a lot of parts that are not cover under the CPO warranty that are covered under the new car warranty, so buyers beware. |

Get the new one. You will get better mileage and more power than the old I6. True the exhaust note is not as melodious but it is not bad either. I had a brand new 328 service loaner that I was very impressed with. Great performance over the Highway 17 hill between Santa Cruz and Los Gatos (if you know that area) much better than my old X3, of course it is a lighter car too. With the new car you get a longer warranty and you can purchase an extended warranty later for more protection if you keep the car past 3 years. Good luck!

You guys are terrific
Thanks for the advice. I'm going to get the new one. And since can't find the right color/package combination with the dealers, I will order a MY14. Hopefully it comes soon (end April/early may). Will keep you all posted.
