Question Help with Phone/Bluetooth 2006 X5

Help! I was so excited to drive my new-to-me 2006 X5 home last night. I had read up on Bluetooth pairing before I bought the vehicle and I knew it had the phone capability. I am so bummed today that is isn't working. I have been reading on line all day and trying different things, but cannot get it to work. The vehicle is equiped with the phone system. When you press the phone button a voice even asks you for a command and it does respond when you try to add numbers vocally but then says "cannot complete". When I try to pair my cell phone (I do have the PassKey Code on the white card), the bluetooth in my phone even finds the BMW Bluetooth, recognizes it and asks for the code. After entering the code, it won't pair. It is possible that the vehicle's phone needs to be activated somehow? What can I try?

What phone brand? And are these the steps (below) that your are following to pair your phone...and instructions on how to use the VR (voice recognition) features?

TIP: KL R & KL 15 = ignition positions 1 & 2

Below are instructions on how to make VR (voice recognition) phone calls:

Instructions below show how to SAVE/STORE/DELETE a name/number:

Below is a quick list of VR commands (some may not be usable...like the notepad commands...if vehicle is NOT equipped):

I just brought home a 2006 X5 today. I actually found the bluetooth manual and was surprised as i did not realize i even had this option. With the X5 running I did a search on my iphone and immediately saw BMWXXXX in the list. Selected it. Phone requested 4 digit PIN. Used the pairing number on the white card on an iphone 5 and it immediately paired with the engine running. I only tested initiating a call from the iphone and also dialing digits on the radio display. It attempted to load my phone book but since i have about 1000 numbers its pretty much useless to try to find a number.
