Electronics under the rear cargo area?

I just purchased a 2013 X3 and was pondering an issue that plagues my 5 series: namely that there are a lot of high value electronics in the trunk area. The problem with this presents itself when liquid spills in your trunk and floods that high value electronics. For the 5 series the solution is either move the electronics or install a cargo mat that collects the liquids. So question: does this same issue plague the X3 and is it a good idea to get a rubber mat for the cargo area? Is there a bunch of high value electronics under the cargo area in the X3? My guess is the answer is yes since the X3 is a 5 series platform.

the battery is under the cargo area floor, for sure. One forum member reported issues when water spilled in the cargo area. His story from March or April is posted here. A mat is a good idea. Most of us favor the BMW or Weathertech products.

If liquids are kept back there... keep them in plastic sealed storage boxes and secure them.
The cargo mat is a must have. I had one in my 06. It was the first thing I bought for the 2014.
I have the BMW mat with the rubber sill protector and box. They can be found for $75-$108.

Thanks for all the feedback. As good form I am just going to get a cargo liner to be safe.

OH, and I assume your wife doesn't read the forums otherwise your sig would be significantly different.

Shhhhh. No blackmail please. I had 2 5 spd Wranglers. My Mustang and SSR have 3 pedals. If I want to commit suicide I'll tell her to check my Sig

Good luck with your X. Enjoy it.
