Selecting a new clutch

I have a 2001 540i 100,000 miles and my clutch is slipping . I'am trying to find the best replacement for the money . The shop I'm letting do the job is charging 500 labor and roughly 450 for the clutch and 600 for the fly wheel . The shop will give me a 12 month warranty only if I used their parts . But I can get a dura last for a 100 cheaper that comes with a lifetime warranty or I can order a luk clutch for about 182 and flywheel for 420 off of amazon . Both of those other 2 options would not be covered if i have any problems by the shop i'm using .Money is tight . Advice needed .

from my experience Duralast are Dura-crap. Sure they have a lifetime warrenty BUT its not fun changing out duralast parts every 6 months when they fail.. you might wanna check out your drive shaft guibo and center bearing while your under there. the drive shaft has to be removed anyway..

The shop will Warranty the labor if that fails but if the clutch I bring them fails I have to pay the labor cost to take the clutch back out

Luk has a good rep as well. Between the 2 feel confident you are getting a good product.

DUDe dont bring your own parts to the shop...

drop the car off... Let them do there work

IF there's a problem, Its there problem
and you should work on that 1 year warranty..

ask for a mileage... like 30k If you drive 10,000 miles this year.. and it fails at 14k next year thats not cool..

LUK is OEM. Duralast is probably a LUK also. I know that autozone offers a LUK clutch kit for about $200, or at least they did a couple years ago when I did mine.

The shop's warranty is 12 months or 12,000 miles . Their clutch and flywheel cost about $1,100 . But I can order the luk clutch and flywheel for $550

So there you have it

Your exposure is $550. Yes it is real money, but it is a game you want to play? Are you willing to play? No one on the internet can really net this out for you, it is your decision. If the shop is legitimate then your risks go down.

12mo/12000 mi seems like a very safe warranty for the shop to give, but I'm not sure it would be worth that much ($550) to me IF your parts are of the same quality as his
