cause for cable letting go on inner drivers door handle?

I have a 2003 x5 3.0i , the cable just let go on the inner drivers door handle (but outside door handle still works ) . for the last couple of months was having inconssistant remote locking issues on drivers lock only locking sometimes but not always with central locking system or with key remote. was wonderring what would cause this problem? still having same issue with remote door locking system on drivers door not working properly since cable broke or let go, was wonderring if I should replace the door lock actuator at the same time of replacing the cable?or could there be another problem?

took door pannel off and found my problem the plastic guide that the inner door handle cable goes too broke on latch side ,so defenitly need a new latch assembly and I can tell someone was in there before and replaced the latch with a used one from a scrap yard it has date with yellow marker on it. so I`m glad I`m getting a new one.
