Indicator
I have a 2004 325I with 6,700 miles. When I first purchased the car new in May 2004, the service indicator appeared to be set at 15,000 miles. Over the last 8 months, this number has steadily decreased to its current level of 7350 miles. I would assume this is casued by limited highway driving - most of my miles are city (45 mph or less w/ stops).
Seems like a dramatic decrease - is this normal/reasonable? Once my actual miles exceed the miles noted by the indicator, what service would my dealer (Irvine) provide? The way the indicator is dropping, I might need service tomorrow... Thanks "Always drive for show - on the road and on the course" |

I think you misunderstand how the "service indicator" functions. Think of it as "countdown clock" to service. As you drive and add miles on the odometer, they are subtracted from the service indicator. Therefore at any given time, add the two numbers together and they should total around 15,000, give or take. The offset is the car's computer factoring in your driving habits to add or subtract miles until you need service. So, you still have 7,350 miles left before your car needs service. At your current average, that's still another 7 or 8 months away.... I don't think you need to make an appointment just yet .
