Is this a reasonable labour estimate?
My dealer today told me that it will take 4-6 hours of "actual labour time" to reprogram my 2004 325xiT so that the Bluetooth module I installed last night will work.
This sounds rather excessive considering that according to the (BMW factory) instruction sheet I received with my install kit it's only a 7-step process. Does this sound reasonable to anyone who has done it?

Take the car to European Motor Werks, 86 E. Live Oak, Arcadia, CA. Ask for John.
He's one of the few shops in the area that can code late model BMWs like most dealerships can, since he invested in a GT1. And he'll charge you far less. If nothing else, bring the car by and see how long it REALLY takes. Heck he'll probably install the BT module for you if you haven't already done so. |

did they hire a programmer to write custom firmware for it? how much did they actually charge you to do this?

This hasn't been done yet. I had to make an appointment for Wednesday toget it done since "it will take so long."
I assume from the answers that this is not reasonable. BT module is already installed. Hardest part was finding and getting to the Assist module so i could replace it with the BT module.

I have a very, very hard time believing anything the stealership tells you about "programming" things. I got a quote today for coding my alarm for $134 in labor (I told the gentleman no thank you, I would take my business elsewhere). Since I have the alarm install instructions, I can see that the required programming takes up less that one sheet of paper. I think dealer margins on cars are so low that they have to clean up on the service....

The ipodyourbmw.com site says that installation should take less than one hour. The adaptor is $149 MSRP.
