Huh????

I'm sure it stands out to the people who frequent this forum... but definitely NOT to the rest of the population. Why my wife has just started being able to tell an M3 from a regular 3 series, even though they've been out 4 years now and they're a dime a dozen where I live.

Non-enthusiasts will not even be able to tell a BMW from a Pontiac from a distance.

Wait a minute!!! That's what will happen to us too, soon!

The logic, sadly, also falls down elsewhere. As it is available on every 3er, from a 316ti to a 330d Touring, it is not possible to say (without looking at the badge) how much "heat" the car is packing. And as - unlike in the US - BMW elects _not_ to equip M Sport cars with any meaningful performance upgrades, the only clear *driver* benefits is the more supportive seats and chunky wheel (which are available as standalone accessories anyway).

Personally for the E90 I would like to see a Performance Package which is available without the body/trim addenda. If I remember right (and please correct me, if not) it was possible to upgrade many a Detroit automotive product with various go-a-lot-faster mechanicals without necessarily having to advertise it.

Thanks for the replies guys. Your all most informative. I've reconsidered it, and the 330i with ZHP looks very attractive as well as a good compromise now. Where as before I considered the 330xi for it's awd (I go north often), now it's something I'll happily pass up for the better handling and looks. Thanks everyone and I'll let you know how everything turns out plus pictures.

We all know the sports pkg is a required option.

ZSP - $1090
ZHP - $3550

Are the following worth $2460?
-Alcantara/cloth seats
-MTech front spoiler
-10HP & 8lb torque
-3.07 differential
-stiffer suspension
-lower ride height
-M steering wheel
-18" style 135 wheels
-Imola Red

Hells yeah!

No doubt that there is a lot of driver skill involved. I do have less autocrossing experience than anyone in the top 5 on that list I believe (I basically have 2-2.5 yrs, which is probably 12-15 events total).

I am not sure I express a popular opinion here, but I'll say it anyway. What I don't understand is - lately you seem to hate BMWs. You take every opportunity to bash the firm, it's practices, it's products, post only negative thoughts, heck you even took time to modify a BMW roundel in mocquery.

Don't you really have anyplace else to spend your time? I mean, if you really hate something why not move away from it, grow up, do something else. Why not bother the Porsche guys, or the Evo guys, or the Infinity guys.

What's the point of sticking around here, where people come because they LOVE the cars???

I agree, some people are always trying to spread a negative vibe in a happy environment.

Everyone - I'm going to go ahead and close this thread. It's been discussed many times, and I don't want it to spiral down like other threads have . If any of you have any questions, feel free to send me a PM.

-Kris
