328i automatic tranny question

lately i have been noticing that the auto tranny takes some time to engage when going from a complete stop to moving.. the engine revs for a few secs before the transmission engages. i have 85k on the car. Is this a sign that the tranny is going? i was wondering if it was a transmission oil issue. is there a way to change the transmission fluid on a 328? ive heard it is a closed system. anyone who has the bentley manual have an answer? I need to order one myself. the problem only happens when the engine is cold.. not after i drive it for a while.. any ideas?

You probably have tranny problem. But like you said, its better to check the oil and see if you need to top it off.

Remember, auto 328's don't have dipstick to check your tranny oil. You will need to jack your car and open the top plug, oil should start driping out. If none, then you need to add oil. I recommend you grab a bottle at your local dealership or any auto part will do too.

tranny problem for me too

after the sensors, waterpump etc. i think its the tranny this time.
today morning i noticed that my car was giving noticeable jerks...then as i moved on, i could see the rpm needle going bet'n 2 and 3 but no speed delivered, the speed was less than 40!
this was more noticeable when i stopped at red lights...
i have 107K on my car and an auto...so is this the tranny?? and what is the worst case price i wud have to pay on it??
thanks all!

Its your tq conventor that causing you to "slip". A new tranny can run you into thousands. Just visit your local junkyard and you can find them pretty cheap. Just make sure it has low milage and comes with warranty.

Its not worth getting it fix. BMW auto's tranny are made from GM (and everyone knows they are crapy). Just go buy a new/used one and save you the trouble. They go for around 200-400 used with low milage
