automatic engine fan
Hi
Can anyone help with this one. The automatic (viscous) fan in my 96 318i will not run. The motor is fine as i can hook it up to another power source and it works. the heat sensor seems ok too. i guess its the relay. the handbook gives no indication which relay it is. Does anyone know which one needs replacing, and, if the relay is not in the box under the hood with the oyhers, where it is located. I'd be very greatful for some help. car stays cool when moving (fan is not required) but will overheat in a traffic jam. thanks fernando

Okey I am little confuse on your testing procedure. The Fan clutch is the one INSIDE your radiator and attach to your water pump. The AUX fan is located outside of your radiator.
There's only couple of way to test your fan clutch and that is to spin it. If they's any play or any liquid coming out of it, then you have a bad fan clutch. To test your aux fan, all you need to do is turn on your A/C and it should come on. If it doesn't then base upon your test, you might have a shot aux fan.
