m sport package

whatever happened to the m sport package for the E60? I thought we should have seen it by now...

Send an email to BMWNA customer relations AND the BMWCCA. If enough people voice their desire for the M Package, BMWNA might offer it.

Mr Brinkman is relaying the logical...why would BMW release an M5 "look alike" before the M5 is in the country.

If you want it, go to your BMW dealer and order the parts. I will post the PNs if you are interested. Note, here in Germany the cost is about 2000 Euros for the aero package (front, Back and sides (2)) already painted.

It's not just the body kit. It's also a different suspension, different interior trim, anthacite headliner, wheels, etc. It would be very expensive to duplicate at the accessory counter.

As for Mr. Brinkman, history suggests that the package, if ever offered in the U.S., will onlly come in the final year of production.

Well, I'm not sure he really is relaying as much. I think all you can gather from his comments is that it won't be out in the next several months.

But, I think BMWNA will offer it sooner than the final year of production based on the warm reception the package has gotten in Europe and the increasing competition in the Mid-size luxo sport-sedan catagory with the arrival of the new Infiniti M and Lexus GS.

We'll see, but I expect it definitely by next year.

The antracite headliner is a priority 1 no cost option in 2006 models that I have selected for my June ED. Personally after seeing it this week, I think I am going to remove it from my list as it makes the cabin far to dark. Living in CA I prefer the light grey.

The suspension parts are the North American Sport package components (they are NOT the M5 components).

The aluminum cube trim is cool, and is available for purchase via individual parts. I will be getting these part via US dealer parts department. The cost is less than $350.

The only remaining items are the M Sport wheels which look like a pain in the you-know-where to clean. No thank you.

The German 2006 5er catalog has one page devoted to this option group.

I do not believe your are correct about the suspension. Those who own, or have driven the M-sport, comment that it is firmer than the sport suspension offered on non M-sport cars. True, it is not the M5 suspension, however.

I know for a fact that the E39 had different dampers and sway bars on the M-sport. This was also true with the E46. I assume it to be different with the E60 as well.

I will review the E60 M Sport documentation I collected this week at the BMW Niederlassung Hannover and either scan or type the info for everyone. It is currently in my checked baggage of this Lufthansa A340-600 (boy I hate the seats economy in this aircraft).

Called several parts departments yesterday:

1. Aluminum Cube trip pieces of the M-Sport package are NOT valid US part numbers. Looks like I'll pick these up while in Munich.

2. M-Sport Aerodynamik-Paket (aero-kit) IS a valid US part number
51 71 0 396 683 without PDC
51 71 0 396 684 with PDC

Note: must be painted.

What factory would that be? The Dingolfing plant is a bit of a drive from Winter Park.

In response to an earlier question....I checked the German price list for the package....and noticed the kit is less expensive if you buy the 545 vs the 530. There is no mention in the documentation about any suspension upgrades over the optional Sport packages for each model.

Looks like the package is limited to external aero kit and wheels, internal Aluminum cube trim, headliner in antracite and the other incidental m-taged parts like the sills, steering wheel, etc.

Download the electronic brochure for the 535d, which includes the 535d SE and the 535D Sport.

If you look at the top of page 7 on the PDF file, you'll notice that the "Sport Suspension" is Optional Cost on the SE model and "Not Availablle" (as compared to "Standard") on the Sport model.

Now scroll to page 9 under the subheading of "Sport" and notice the line, "M Sport Suspension Settings" which is "Not Available" on the SE model but Standard on the Sport model.

The brochure makes a destinction between "Sport Suspension" and "M Sport Suspension Settings" which leads me to believe that they're different.

I don't know about other people, but the firmer suspension is worth having. Besides I like the wheels too. Moreover, I wouldn't have minded the firmer M Sport suspension on my E39.

The M-Sport aero package was added to the e39 in the final year of production (e39 540 sport package).

True with the E39, but not so with the E46, which received the Performance Package a full 3 years before EOP.

FWIW, BMWNA has gradually increased the sport options over the years. Back in the E34 days there was NO sport package at all unless you ordered the 540i/6. When the E39 was introduced, that also held true -- for one year, until the 528i sport package was introduced.

Bernard may be correct, but then, we'll have to wait and see.
